Delhi Prepares for the Big G20 Summit 2023
Delhi is getting ready to host a major event, the G20 Summit, from September 9-10. Leaders and important figures from 20 of the world’s biggest economies will arrive a day earlier. To ensure their smooth travel, there will be some traffic restrictions in place. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued guidelines to help everyone navigate the city during this time.

Metro Station Closures
During the G20 Summit, the following Delhi Metro stations will be completely closed: Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT, and Sadar Bazar Cantonment. Passengers won’t be able to enter or exit these stations.

Closures During G20
In New Delhi, all establishments like schools, offices, restaurants, malls, and markets will be closed from September 8 to 10. Even the Supreme Court will remain closed. Those going to the Summit area will need passes. Some vehicles will be allowed in, mainly those carrying essential items. Auto rickshaws, taxis, and tourist taxis with hotel bookings will have limited access. Buses can operate on specific routes. Emergency medical vehicles won’t be stopped.

Restricted Areas
To avoid regulated and controlled zones, the traffic police suggest these alternative routes:
East-West Corridor: Sun Dial/DND Flyover – Ring Road – Ashram Chowk – Moolchand Underpass – AIIMS Chowk – Ring Road – Dhaula Kuan – Ring Road – Brar Square – Naraina Flyover
North-South Corridor: Ring Road – Ashram Chowk – Sarai Kale Khan – Delhi-Meerut Expressway – Noida Link Road – Pusta Road – Yudhistir Setu – ISBT Kashmere Gate – Ring Road – Majnu Ka Tila – AIIMS Chowk – Ring Road – Dhaula Kuan – Ring Road – Brar Square – Naraina Flyover – Rajouri Garden Junction – Ring Road – Punjabi Bagh Junction – Ring Road – Azad Pur Chowk

Delhi Airport
Passengers traveling to Delhi Airport, New Delhi, and Old Delhi railway stations will still be able to go, but there might be some delays due to traffic restrictions. The 18th G20 Summit will be held at the newly built Bharat Mandapam.

New Airport Coming in Delhi
A new international airport, Noida International Airport, is under construction near Jewar in Uttar Pradesh. It will serve the National Capital Region (NCR).

Duration of Closure
Delhi will be closed from September 8th to 10th for the G20 Summit, which will take place in New Delhi.

G20 Venue
The G20 Summit will be held at the modern Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan.

Gurgaon During G20
Gurugram has issued work-from-home advisories and traffic restrictions ahead of the G20 Summit in Delhi to ease congestion and facilitate traffic flow during the event. Restrictions will be in place from midnight on September 7th until the afternoon of September 11th.

Host of G20
The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will chair the G20 New Delhi Summit. India assumed the G20 presidency in December 2022, leading up to the summit in the third quarter of 2023.

G20 2024 Host
Brazil will host the G20 in 2024, followed by South Africa in 2025.

G20 Theme
The theme for the G20 Summit 2023 is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which means “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

G20 Membership
The G20 comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom and United States) and the European Union. Together, they represent a significant portion of the global economy, trade, and population.

G20 Summit in India
The 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi marks the culmination of all G20 meetings and processes held throughout the year among ministers, officials, and civil societies.

G20 Budget in India
The Union Budget for 2023 has allocated Rs 990 crore for the G20 presidency in India.

Origins of G20
The G20 was initiated by Canada’s Finance Minister, Paul Martin, and evolved from finance minister-level meetings into leaders-level summits.
